The two most important elements of the space were already there: wood and nature. The spruce-clad walls became the starting point for the material concept, while the views outside became an essential part of it. Some of the wooden surfaces were “dressed” in white, while others were left untouched. In this way, wood remains present throughout the house – as material, tradition, memory and a connection to its surroundings.

One of the main challenges was harmonising different types of wood. The existing spruce was complemented by maple in the flooring and staircase, and ash in the solid-wood furniture. Older pieces – restored bar stools, Rex chairs and a chest of drawers at the entrance – add patina and a sense of time, while contemporary elements bring the interior back into the present.

The interior is simple, airy and light. White furniture recedes into the background, allowing the architecture to take centre stage, while the central space is defined by a tall solid-ash dining table, conceived as an extension of the kitchen worktop. The white metal verticals of the staircase railing appear as a recurring graphic element, while carefully considered lighting subtly highlights the wooden surfaces and creates different atmospheres.

Kozolec was conceived as a holiday house, yet over time it has revealed itself to be something more. A place for family holidays, children’s play, work, rest or an evening glass of wine. Perhaps even a home.
